Why Got Biome?Got Biome's mission is to inform and educate ordinary Citizen Scientists about the human gut biome and its role in human health, mental well-being and longevity. The articles posted are intended to demystify the raw science of a wide range of topics and to distill the logical and science-based chains that connect desired health outcomes to our biome and the foods we eat. Once such connections are made, purposeful dietary modifications to bio-hack our biome can be made to address health risks and drive favorable health outcomes.

About the AuthorDr. Podlogar grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. His passion for learning and understanding the root of how things work led him to obtain a chemistry/mathematics degree from the University of Wisconsin at Parkside in 1984, and a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry at the University of South Florida in 1989.  Following a post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, he spent 15 years engaged in drug discovery research in both academia and pharmaceutical industry.  From 2006-2020, Dr. Podlogar returned to classroom at The College of New Jersey where he inspired the next generation to take up the challenges in general and organic chemistry. Dr. Podlogar has over 60 publications, presentations, patents and book chapters covering topics such as antiviral/anti HIV therapeutics, antibiotics, antibiotic resistance and anti-obesity therapeutics.  

Dr. Podlogar is currently researching and consolidating the latest scientific literature in areas of dietary health, exercise outcomes, mental health and longevity. He has recently earned a certification in Nutrition Science from Cornell University and has completed programs with the American Gut Project on the human biome. As a self avowed bio-hacker and a practitioner of dietary fasting, Dr. Podlogar’s passion is to share his and others' experiences and insights to assist ordinary Citizen Scientists to make healthy lifestyle choices.

When not researching the latest trends in human health, you can find Dr. Podlogar with his wife, Susan of 38 years in their home gym or in the kitchen experimenting with new healthy food combinations.  Dr. Podlogar is a member of the Princeton Hockey Club and has re-initiated an age-appropriate version of martial arts training.
